Rent To Rent

  • A growing trend of renters who, without permission, sublet to subtenants are described as Rent to Rent aka Rent to Rented
  • AKA let to let
  • Some subtenancies are legitimate in that the superior landlords consents to the inferior landlord (who is also the superior tenant) subletting to the sub tenant.  This can occur when a tenant drops out and a substitute replaces the original superior tenant. It might be imprudent for the superior landlord to withhold consent as this could result in arrears which although is the responsibility of the superior tenant might nevertheless be unenforceable if the tenant is a man of straw.
